Ta-Da! Little ButterYum's very first tiered creation.
After seeing a commercial on TV for the "Girl Gourmet Cake Designer Kit", Little ButterYum quickly put it at the top of her Christmas List. You should have seen the look on her face when she unwrapped it... she couldn't wait to get started making and decorating her very own little cake.
The kit is like a modern day Easy Bake Oven - the major difference being the cake layers bake in the microwave for only 30 seconds. The kit also includes a decorating station, complete with a tiny turntable and a battery operated frosting pen.
I helped her cover the tiny cakes with a layer of chocolate fondant, but she did everything else. She had the best time playing with this kit - her father and I watched with smiles on our faces as she rolled and cut the fondant shapes and glued them into place. It kept her entertained for a couple of hours. She said her favorite part was using the battery operated frosting pen.
Here is a better look - the kit includes a the turntable and cake dome (which doubles as the mixing bowl), the plastic cake pan, 2 packages of cake mix, 4 packages of fondant mix, piping gel for the battery operated decorating pen, measuring cup and spoon, plastic rolling pin, spatula, and fondant cutters.
There's even a mat to roll out the fondant.
Everything stacks together neatly. It's really cute.
The actual cake was surprisingly moist, but the fondant was less than desirable. Actually, I wouldn't call it authentic fondant - it was more of a thick, sticky paste made from powdered sugar and water. I'll have to save some scraps of real fondant for her to use in the future.
Thanks for visiting!
